what to do when someone copies or steals your website content

by cerebro 9. September 2010 21:00

What to do when someone copies your website content

Here is the actual list of actions we took when a so called UK web design company www.am-webdesign.com decided to copy everything from  us (content, graphics, videos and even our own analytic code).

1. First we panicked, then we sweared and cursed.... we threw them everything we had in the dictionary

2. We regained our calm and went to their site and cordially asked for a cease and desist, but nothing happened.  Their phones obviously didnt work nor their cel or their landline -as if they really had one

3. We were getting steamed, again.... we were throwing the F**** bomb all over the place.

4. This time every single designer and programmer in turbonacho was googling them on the internet, we found a couple of social media profiles and directories and we placed several sarcastic comentaries on a few places http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/London-United-Kingdom/AM-webDesigncom/120640564645094?ref=ts

5. But then again nothing happened.... and time went by.

6. Suddenly................. our SERP's dropped? OMG&^$^$*^*%!!!! could this have been a result of the copycats from www.am-webdesign.com ?

7. We wrote on google forums seeking some sort of help our advice, but nothing happend http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Analytics/thread?tid=372b19bf25517456&hl=en

8. Frustration was all over the place, we tried everything.............. this time we went to http://www.copyscape.com/  furstration was at its highest.

9. Finally after a lot of searching I found http://www.dmca.com/....... and thought I gave it a try, had nothing to lose just $99 bucks. Like magic and in less than a day the site was down.  I dont know how but the site was taken down at least the main domain for now.

10. Now I carry their badge on all of our www.turbonacho.com pages and hopefully this will never happen again.

BTW our SERP's are still fried so my advice to everyone................ is to better take care of plagiarism otherwise your website may be taking a big risk
